A further 200 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated back home from the Maldives.
National Carrier Maldivian announced today that as part of its operations with the government, it had repatriated 200 Bangladeshi nationals from the Maldives. Some of the repatriated did not have valid documentation while others wished to depart due to various reasons.
A total of 2,500 Bangladeshi nationals without proper documentation have been repatriated, with the total figure around 3,000. They do not include individuals repatriated via a Bangladeshi military aircraft and chartered flights by the Maldivian government.
Authorities estimate that there are around 63,00 migrants in the Maldives without proper documentation. The government estimates that around 5,000 such individuals could be repatriated within the next three months.
