Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has advised seafarers to take precautions and pay attention to weather forecasts, with a large part of Maldives affected by strong winds and rough seas.

MNDF’s appeal comes after Maldives Meteorological Service issued a white alert for a large part of Maldives, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusts of 45 miles per hour, and rough seas.

The white alert is effective from 09:00 pm on Tuesday to 02:00 am on Wednesday, from H. A. Atoll to F. Atoll.

MNDF has responded to at least two incidents at sea so far this Tuesday. The first involved a speedboat carrying 26 people which ran aground off K. Kodhipparu, and the second involves a speedboat carrying three people which ran aground the reef of Velassaru Maldives.
