World Health Organization donates ICU, laboratory equipment to Maldives

World Health Organization (WHO), on Saturday, donated medical equipment to Maldives.

According to Health Ministry, the donation was provided to support Maldives’ COVID-19 efforts, and the efforts to develop the health system in general. The medical equipment donated by WHO includes equipment used in Intensive Care Units and in laboratories.

The donation was presented to Acting Health Minister, Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam by WHO Country Representative to Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur in a ceremony at the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) on Saturday afternoon.

According to Health Ministry, the donations include portable x-ray machines, other diagnostic equipment, and test kits.

Health Ministry said it expects the donations to improve the efficiency of services at ICUs and laboratories in various health facilities across Maldives.

The specifics of the donations have not been disclosed.

Previous donations by WHO to support Maldives’ COVID-19 efforts include PCR test kits and more than 15,000 GeneXpert cartridges.
