COVID-19: Maldives records 24 new infections

Health Protection Agency (HPA), announced 24 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Maldives to 11,986.

According to HPA, the new cases include 18 locals and six foreigners.

18 of the cases were identified from the greater Male’ region, while the remaining six cases were identified from the atolls.

Meanwhile, 26 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 11,092.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 847 active cases.

There are 226 patients in isolation facilities and 60 in hospitals.

1,392 samples have been tested for the new COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

The Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7, and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

39 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.
