In December, Maldives has so far received 14,000 tourists

Tourism Ministry of the Maldives has stated that the Maldives has so far received more than 14,000 tourists in December. 

Statistics shared by the Ministry show that the Maldives received a total of 14,249 tourists from December 1-7. This is an average of 2,042 tourists per day.

December 6 was the day with the highest number of tourist arrivals with a total of 3,006 tourists. The highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives since the nation reopened its borders on July 15 were recorded on this day. 

A total of 90,437 tourists have so far been recorded since the Maldives reopened its borders. The government is targeting to bring in more than 100,000 tourists by the end of the year. Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said that this target could be achieved by December 16. 

Russia is the nation with the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives with 19,883 tourists. India comes second with 12,615 arrivals. The United Kingdom with 7,416 tourists comes in third place.

Currently, there are 403 tourist facilities in operation including 135 marina/resorts, five hotels, 124 safaris, and 139 guesthouses. This is a total bed capacity of 36,710 beds. 

In 2020, the Maldives has received 473,284 tourists. The government is targeting to bring in 500,000 tourist arrivals by the end of 2020. A total of 20 international airlines are operating to the Maldives currently.
