Shark feeding during excursions illegal in Maldives

Tourism Ministry states it is important that all tourism activities are conducted in harmony with the environment and biodiversity, and in accordance with the laws and regulations of Maldives.

In a circular to tourist establishments this Sunday, Tourism Ministry reminded all tourist establishments, dive centers and excursion providers that shark feeding is illegal under Clause 1, Section 13 of Regulation on Recreational Diving.

However, some tourist establishments offer shark feeding in their excursion packages.

 Shark feeding during excursions have led to injuries in shark attacks.

Tourism Ministry has instructed all concerned stakeholders to abide by regulations, especially those that concern safety of tourists and employees.
