A resolution has been submitted to the Parliament regarding a rise in sexual abuse crimes in the Maldives and calling to punish those accused of such crimes in order to attain justice for the victims.

Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef submitted the resolution to the Parliament today. The resolution read that a significant increase in crimes related to sexual abuse had been observed in the Maldives and that sufficient action was not being taken to address these crimes.

The resolution was submitted also because of delays in charging for these crimes and that after a while the entire case is swept under the rug. This led to an increase in such crimes, read the resolution.

Also the delays in justice had led to people fearing for their safety when outdoors, read the resolution.

It further called for a systematic manner in which such crimes are properly addressed and reduced and to attain justice for the victims and also called on state institutions to speed up the procedure.
