Police: 4 persons of interest noticed regarding terror attack

Maldives Police Service has stated that four persons of interest have so far been noticed in connection with the attack last night on former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed in a press conference today said that police were now working to identify the four and arrest them. 

Commissioner Hameed said that further details regarding the four people could not be disclosed right now.

"From the scene of the attack, individuals with suspicious activity have been noticed. We are now working to take the necessary steps for a criminal procedure case. We have noticed four people of interest in relation to this attack," said Commissioner of Police. 

The Commissioner said that the attack is not yet known to have any connections to foreign organizations and that the material used was life-threatening explosives.

The Commissioner also said that the case is being investigated as the highest priority case right now. Around 450 police officers are working on the case according to the Commissioner. 

Police also officially confirmed that the attack was targeted to ex-President Nasheed who is still in the hospital receiving treatment for the wounds. The case is being investigated as a terror attack.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed also stated that police did not receive any intelligence information related to the attack before the attack and that an inquiry would be conducted into the lack of intelligence information for the attack.
