Nasheed’s office also extended gratitude on his behalf towards the consulates of Maldives in Germany and in the UK in addition to the Ambassadors and employees at the embassy. The office also thanked well-wishers on behalf of Nasheed.

A homemade remote-controlled IED was strapped to a motorcycle parked nearby Nasheed’s residence and was detonated at 08:27 pm on May 6, just as Nasheed, 54, exited his residence and went to get in his car. Nasheed was thrown to the ground and sustained multiple shrapnel wounds. Some people close to Nasheed have noted he has still not regained full function of some of his body parts.
