Former Fisheries Minister Zaha Waheed has been appointed a Minister at President’s Office.

She was presented with her letter of appointment in a ceremony at the President’s Office on Thursday afternoon.

Zaha, who was appointed Fisheries Minister on a slot to government coalition partner Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), resigned last May, after the President made the decision to dismiss her in face of mounting criticism from MDP parliamentarians.

Zaha attained her Master of Science (MSc) in Marine Science (Fisheries Resource Management) and completed her Bachelor of Science with Joint Honors in Marine Biology and Oceanography.

She served in several focal positions such as Senior Researcher, Deputy Director, Head of Policy Planning and Coordination Service and State Minister within the Fisheries Ministry between 1989 and 2015, before she was appointed Fisheries Minister in 2018.

Zaha was replaced as Fisheries Minister by former Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed.
