One killed in fatal motorcycle crash at Addu Link Road

An individual has been killed in a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred at Addu City Link Road.

A Police Spokesperson told Sun that they were reported a road accident near Addu Link Road’s Gaukendi Bridge in the early hours of Thursday – after a motorcycle crashed into a pedestrian.

The Police Spokesperson further detailed they were informed of the death of the injured driver who was transported to Addu Equatorial Hospital for treatment following the accident. The driver was identified by the Police Spokesperson as a 59-year-old Maldivian man.

It was also noted by the Police Spokesperson that the pedestrian had sustained some injuries as well – however, nothing serious.

Addu Equatorial Hospital’s Senior Customer Relations Officer Shaafy Mohamed told Sun that when the injured driver was brought to the hospital – he had sustained major trauma to the skull, rib cage and lungs and was bleeding internally.

Shaafy said that he succumbed to his injuries at around 11:18pm last night – whilst being treated at the ICU.
