Police arrest three in New Year's Eve operation

Police said they arrested three people on Friday, under a special operation conducted in connection to the new year. 

Operation Riveli 2021, an operation conducted both via land and sea, was launched on December 24. 

Under the operation, police increased patrols and stopped and questioned people wandering in the streets at night without credible cause. 

According to the statistics released by police, 387 vehicles were checked and 789 places searched between 04:00 pm Friday and 06:00 am Saturday. 

Police received reports of four thefts, three assaults, two muggings, and one drug case during that time. 

Police also stopped and questioned 504 people and searched 99 people. 

While the operation was launched ahead of the new year, it is to continue even after the New Year’s Eve.
