Schools to reopen on Sunday, special measures to be enforced at Male’ schools

Education Ministry has stated that schools will reopen as scheduled on Sunday, with special measures in place at Male’ schools.

In a statement released today, Education Ministry said that with COVID-19 cases surging across the country once again, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has instructed to take special precautionary measures.

Therefore, when schools reopen for the second term of the 2021-2022 academic year, studies at Male’ school during the first week will commence with special precautionary measures in place, as per the Ministry.

Noting that schools are separately informing the Ministry how studies will be carried out at each one of them – Education Ministry said that all activities taking place in school will require social distancing.

They further detailed that similar to the previous term, students would have to undergo a temperature check upon arrival at school and sanitize themselves as well. In addition to the to this, the school session will have to be shortened.

Schools where grades 1 to 8 are taught at have also been instructed to formulate the timetable for the first week in a manner which students would only have to attend school on two days by the Ministry.  All activities that required taking off masks have also been barred.

The Ministry has also instructed that students should have three feet distance between each other while at classrooms. They also urged to follow other instruction laid out by HPA.

Whilst the COVID-19 situation in Maldives have escalated over the past week – the number of daily positive cases from Male’ area is alarmingly high, with 413 new cases being recorded yesterday itself.
