The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) on Sunday launched a rooftop solar project ‘Avikatha’ – that allows people to earn an income by renting out their rooftops to install solar panels.

The scheme was officially launched by Vice President Faisal Naseem, during a special function held to mark the 25th anniversary of STELCO.

According to STELCO, the scheme will be open, and the public will have the opportunity to make an earning from this from July onwards.

Some of the conditions that need to be met for taking part in this are; having permission from the owner of the building, minimum of 100 square feet on the roof, can accommodate a weight of 150 kilograms, and having direct sunlight fall on it easily.

Those taking part in the scheme would not have to take care of the expenditure related to the installation and maintenance of the solar panels. Moreover, the set ‘rent’ amount would be deposited monthly by STELCO to the individual’s account.

As per the company, those who want to participate can send their details via email to [email protected]

STELCO will then vet the applications and will study the locations for those who meet all the requirements. If they pass all the evaluations, the company will make an agreement with the person, and commence work to install the panels.

For those seeking further information regarding the project, they can make inquiries by calling STELCO’s call centre.
