Maldivian fugitive wanted in fraud case captured from Thailand

A Maldivian man who fled the country after stealing a large amount of many has been captured with assistance from the Interpol.

Mohamed Ihsan, 33, Ma. Feeroazvaadhee, K. Male’, is accused of stealing a large amount of money through fraud and fleeing overseas.

According to court documents, Ihsan had fled to Thailand shortly after he committed the crime.

The police submitted CCTV footage which shows him carrying a bag and at the Velana International Airport.

Ihsan was captured from Thailand through the Interpol – which issued a red notice for his arrest upon request of Maldives police.

He was presented before the Criminal Court for his remand hearing Friday. The court remanded him to custody of the police for 15 days.

The police were not immediately available for comment regarding the case.

The exact amount of money stolen in the case, along with other case details, are unclear.
