Qasim re-elected as Jumhoory Party’s leader

Incumbent leader of Jumhoory Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim, has been reelected as the party’s leader.

JP’s Chief Spokesperson Ali Solih told Sun that Qasim was elected as no other individual had submitted their candidacy for the post within the stipulated timeframe.

The election of new individuals for the party’s posts will take place during JP’s congress scheduled to be held on February 24th and February 25th.

The deadline to submit candidacy for the posts expired at 14:00pm on Saturday afternoon.

A total of 12 individuals submitted their candidacy for JP’s deputy leader posts including Transport Minister Aishath Nahula,

  • Transport Minister Aishath Nahula
  • State Minister Hassan Mughnee
  • Qasim’s Executive Secretary Iqbal Adam
  • Incumbent deputy leader Ahmed Saudh
  • Immigration Controller Mohamed Ahmed Hussain (Hanafy)
  • Former Transport Minister Ameen Ibrahim
  • North Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah
  • Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed
  • Former Keyodhoo MP Moosa Nizar Ibrahim
  • Isdhoo MP Ali Hameed
  • Yashfa Abdul Ghanee

 

The most important decision the new council elected during JP’s congress will make is regarding 2023’s presidential election. In this regard, the congress will decide whether a candidate of the party will contest in the election.
