The law will be amended to enforce the death penalty against drug traffickers in a Maldives National Party (MNP) administration, states the party’s leader and Dhangethi MP Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim.

Nazim made the comment in response to a question during the fourth session of the ‘Nazim Bunee Keekay’ program.

Nazim said that enforcing the death penalty is the only way to step large shipments of drugs from getting trafficked into Maldives.

“This can be done. We will not make concessions for anyone. Nothing is bigger than our country. We will make this change in our administration. The penalty will be enforced,” he said.

Nazim said enforcing the death penalty required amending the law.

It is crucial that we get this done given the current situation of this country, he said.

Nazim said that drugs have led to the destruction of an entire generation.

He expressed concern over the current penalties for drug trafficking, which he said were too “small”.

Nazim, who is running in the upcoming presidential election, said that he will be a president who shifts the tide and enforced the death penalty to stop drug traffickers.
