Supporters welcome opposition PPM-PNC coalition's presidential candiate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu upon arrival at R. Alifushi.

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, referring to accusations he will stop the airport development project at R. Alifushi if elected, has stated that the claims were being made by cowards – and pledged to finish the airport at much a faster pace.

It had been raining heavily when Muizzu arrived at Alifushi this morning on a campaign trip. Nevertheless, many supporters rallied at the harbor to welcome him.

Speaking to residents of Alifushi, Muizzu said that it was cowards making accusations that he would stop the development projects and dismissing employees from their jobs, if he is elected.

“Such accusations are only made by very cowardly people. It is a cowardly act. A backward act. We have to be people who are more responsible than this,” he said.

“The airport development project at this island is something I wish to do for you more than them,” he added.

The opposition presidential candidate, in this regard, pledged to complete the Alifushi airport development project at a much faster pace than the current administration.

Muizzu, underscoring the island was in need of land for industrial works, pledged to reclaim the land for it. Noting the importance of the bank’s branch by the time the airport is completed, he promised to establish a branch on the island by then.

Pointing out that Alifushi was an isolated island, he stressed that the health system on the island should be strengthened to eliminate the need to travel outside of the island for health services.

“Will upgrade the health centre on the island to a good quality hospital,” he pledged.

Muizzu also pledged to develop sports facilities for the youth and create opportunities for guesthouse businesses to promote local tourism once the airport is completed.

“We want to undertake various development projects for you. We are ready to,” he said.

Muizzu added that the coalition was contesting the election with the intention of undertaking sincere efforts to make the dreams of the people a reality.
