President designates 300 flats for resort workers

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to designate 300 flats under the recently announced state housing scheme for resort workers.

State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaluddin told Sun on Monday that people who have worked in, or continue to work in resorts for at least 15 years will be eligible for flats under the category.

According to Akram, the 300 flats will be designated under the recently announced project to develop 7,000 housing units.

Akram said the policies for flats under the category will be published on the Government Gazette later Monday.

Applications have been opened for 8,000 flats and over 5,000 plots of land under phase II of the current administration’s housing scheme. The scheme is open to registered residents of other islands who have resided in Male’ for the last 20 years.

Some of the recipients of land under phase I of the scheme have now received their registration. Meanwhile, the Housing Ministry states that the final list of recipients of flats will be released soon.
