President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s spokesman Mohamed Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel said today that he has asked the current government to postpone the agreement with a company in Tamil Nadu to import medicines to Maldives.

Speaking at a press conference in M. Dhimyath today, Firuzul said this was noticed as part of the work being done by the Transition Committee.

The agreement is part of a special agreement between STO and a Tamil Nadu company to supply various medicines and other related supplies to Maldives, he said.

Firuzul said the President-elect is concerned that such a project is being carried out so fast at this stage as it is an important and sensitive matter related to the basic services of the people.

However, the STO has denied attempts to sign any such agreement.

“We hereby inform that the STO is not attempting to sign any such agreement at this time, and that we have yet to be instructed by anyone to stop such a deal,” said the STO, in a post on X on Saturday, shortly after Firuzul’s press conference.

Firuzul has expressed earlier concern that the equipment needed by the hospitals in Maldives has not been ordered for the rest of this year.

The Health Ministry said it is working to procure the necessary equipment to provide health services and that they will be available without delays.
