Prizes awarded to winners of Dhiraagu Road Race 2023

Prizes have been awarded to the winders of Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2023.

The prizes were handed over during a special ceremony held at Dhiraagu head office on Thursday night. In this regard, 39 prizes were handed over 31 winners; 14 local runners, 5 international participants and 12 students from a total of 5 categories – Half Marathon, 10K, 5K Open, 5K School – Above 13 and 5K – School Under 13.

The winners are:

Half Marathon – Male

  • Kiran Singh Bogati Rajwar (Nepal) – Overall Champion
  • Yoosuf Ibrahim – Local Champion & Overall Runner-up
  • Charles Kipkorir Kipsang (Kenya) – Overall 2nd Runner-up
  • Hussain Fazeel Haroon – Local Runner-up
  • Shifaz Mohamed – Local 2nd Runner-up

Half Marathon – Female

  • Peninah Jepkoech Kigen (Kenya) – Overall Champion
  • Phulmati Rana – Overall Runner-up
  • Mariyam Abdul Kareem – Local Champion & Overall 2nd Runner-up
  • Aishath Rishmee – Local Runner-up
  • Mariyam Mayan Mohamed – Local 2nd Runner-up

10K – Male

5K School Under 13 – Female

  • Mariyam Zayn Ziyau - Finland International School – Overall Champion (Net Time)
  • Clara Sarena Asif - Finland International School – Champion (Gun Time)
  • Aishath Maleeka Zameer - Iskandhar School – Runner-up

Speaking at the prize ceremony, Dhiraagu’s CEO and MD Ismail Rasheed congratulated all the winners and commended them for their exceptional performance. He also remarked how DMRR is not just an anticipated event for the international and local running community, but also a key fundraising event with every step by the runners counting towards the social cause of protecting children, which is one of the company’s key CSR focus areas. 

In this regard, this year, Dhiraagu awarded MVR 635,000 to the 12 DMRR-endorsed NGOs which included MVR 200,000 that was donated by Dhiraagu to the top five NGOs nominated by the runners. Proceeds from the registration and nice bib number sales were also awarded to all 12 partner NGOs to help kickstart their activities to help protect children. Each of the top 5 NGOs received MVR 76,250 while the remaining 7 NGOs received MVR 36,250 each.

DMRR 2023 – the largest annual run in the Maldives, was held on October 27th at Hulhumale’ Central Park with over 4,000 registered runners. They included participants from 27 nationalities participated as well as students from 31 schools, including 7 schools from outside Male’.

During last night’s ceremony, Dhiraagu also announced the date for next year’s DMMR; October 25th, 2024.

 

DMMR is the first and only international run held in the Maldives listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar with a World Athletics-certified race route.
