Maumoon: The way of a civilized society is to thank the outgoing govt, and to welcome the new govt.

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has remarked that the way of a civilized society is to extend heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing administration and to warmly welcome the new administration.

Maumoon made the remark in a post on the social media platform X. He described the moment of transition between two administrations as a crucial moment for a nation.

Maumoon congratulated President Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu when he won the election, and praised the first interview Muizzu had given to a foreign news outlet following his election.

President-elect Muizzu and vice president-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef will be sworn in during a special ceremony slated for 4:45pm this evening at the Republic’s Square.

Outgoing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is expected to attend the ceremony.

Muizzu’s cabinet will be sworn-in and presented their letter of credentials during a ceremony scheduled for 7:45pm at the President’s Office.

Individuals appointed to senior posts in the President’s Office will be presented their letter of credentials tonight.

Foreign delegations from various countries have arrived in the Maldives for the inauguration ceremony.
