Alleged cat stabber’s remand extended by 10 days

The Criminal Court has extended the remand of the man arrested for stabbing a street cat in Male’ City on November, after the police presented evidence that he attempted to attack another cat.

CCTV footage of a man taking out a knife from his pocket and stabbing a cat that was resting on the doorstep of a building went viral on November 13.

Ahmed Naseem, 45, was arrested in connection to the case on November 18. He was initially remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.

He was presented before the court for an extension to his remand on Sunday.

The court extended his remand by an additional 10 days, after the police presented evidence Naseem also attempted to attack a second cat.

The police also told the court he has a prior criminal record.

Harming animals is prohibited under the Penal Code.
