MVR 3 million incurred for Vice President’s two trips overseas

The President’s Office, on Thursday, revealed a total of MVR 3,189,548.58 was incurred for the trips Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef undertook to China and Switzerland.

VP Latheef’s visits took place between December 4 and December 14th, with the visit to China being to attend the ‘China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation’ organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the visit to Geneva, Switzerland being to participate in the high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Human Rights 75).

The total cost of both trips was placed at MVR 3,189,544.58 which includes MVR 2,413,029.54 as the airfare for both trips.

The total cost of VP Latheef’s visit to China is MVR 180,735.90.  As per the President’s Office, the Chinese government made all arrangements for the accommodation, food, and domestic travel expenses for the Vice President and his delegation during the visit. 

Nine members of the delegation were given MVR 101,644 in pocket money. MVR 56,905.36 was incurred as stopover expenses and MVR 11,406.55 was incurred as incidental expenses.

Meanwhile, the total cost of the trip to Geneva stood at MVR 595,779,14. They include MVR 101.664 in pocket money for 9 members of the delegation. Other expenses are as follows;

  • Food – MVR 118,417.34
  • Accommodation – MVR 228,491.71
  • Insurance – MVR 12,999.06
  • Incidental expenses – MVR 7,594.26
  • Transport – MVR 126,612.77
