Police investigate after Zikura Mosque egged

Police have opened an investigation into the egging of the Zikura Mosque, located in Machangolhi district of Male’ City.

Eggs were found splattered inside the mosque by prayer goers on Tuesday, as they visited the mosque to perform the Fajr prayer. Pictures of the scene was shared on social media.

A police spokesperson said the incident was reported to them at around midnight.

We have identified the culprit, said the spokesperson.

The police said they were investigating the case, but did not say if they have the suspect in custody.

A prayer goer who was among the first to see the eggs splatters told Sun that they had immediately reported it to the Male’ City Council, but that the council failed to take any action.

He said that they had also reported a prior incident – involving human feces at the wudu station -but that the council failed to respond.

The city council was not immediately available for comment regarding the incident.
