President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says his administration will begin issuing land from Thilafushi within the next six months, in order to relocate fiber workshops in suburban Vilimale’.

He made the announcement during a campaign event in Vilimale’ on Saturday morning for the main ruling PNC’s Male’ City mayoral candidate Aishath Azima Shakoor.

Addressing the crowd, President Muizzu noted that there are some families in Vilimale’ who depend on fiber works as a source of income.

He noted that the work in Vilimale’ poses a public health hazard, given the close proximity of the workshops to the island’s residential area.

President Muizzu said that he had tried to push for the fiber works to be relocated to Thilafushi during his time as Male’ mayor, but failed to receive cooperation from the MDP administration.

President Muizzu said that land has now been allocated from Thilafushi to relocate fiber works, and that equal opportunities will be provided to everyone involved in the trade.

He said that plots will be issued from Thilafushi to relocate all fiber works in Vilimale’ within the next six months.
