VP Latheef visits Male’ homes impacted by floods

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, on Friday evening. visited Male’ homes impacted by flooding from torrential downpour.

Home Ministry, in a post on X, said damage following flooding has been reported from various areas of Male’

VP Latheef, accompanied by Home Minister Ali Hussain, visited Male’ homes on Friday evening to inspect damages. They were joined by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said 57 people from eight homes in Male’ City have been provided temporary shelter following flooding.

NDMA, in a post on X on Friday night, said they have received distress calls seeking assistance from 144 homes as of present.

They added that assistance has been provided to 132 homes, while sandbags have been stacked at the entrance of 91 homes to prevent flood water from sweeping in.

As per the authority, damages to property following torrential rain have also been reported from islands including Male’; Th. Guraidhoo, Th. Dhiyamgili, L. Maamendhoo and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.

However, NDMA said the most damage was reported from Male’ homes.
