President pledges to allocate special priority to Buruni

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has injected hope amongst Th. Buruni residents with a promise of implementing developmental projects on the island, as desired by the residents.

As part of his ongoing tour of Thaa Atoll, President Muizzu visited Buruni on Tuesday.

Speaking to the residents of the island, the President pledged to allocate special priority to Buruni, in paving the way for developmental projects desired by the residents.

“I assure you that we will allocate special priority to resolve the difficulties faced by the residents of this island, and in this trajectory, resolve them. This is the assurance I want to give you all,” he said.

On this note, he affirmed the intention to eliminate obstructions posed to projects underway pertaining for the development of tourism.

“Hopefully, we will also identify what is immediately needed to resume projects that have been stalled and undertake the efforts necessary within the government and the ministry to expedite and complete the project by discussing with the contractor to ensure the completion of the projects at the earliest and as desired by the people,” he said.

President Muizzu said there will be the capacity to take on PSIP projects as the economy improves. However, he stressed the need to prioritize development plans to align with the country’s economic goals.

He called on the residents to reap the benefits of the government’s policy to incorporate uninhabited islands within the jurisdiction of island councils, adding that Buruni has the opportunity to seek jurisdiction under these guidelines, boosting the island's revenue and income.

“It is in the hand of the council to do this,” he added.
