President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with officials from 100 councils and women’s development committee (WDCs) over the last one-month period, as part of his current tour of Maldivian islands.

The president’s current tour is aimed meeting with officials from all local councils in Maldives before Ramadan.

Instead of visiting all islands, President Muizzu is visiting select islands in each atoll, and inviting council officials over to meet him.

He met with officials from the 100th council – the council of R. Rasgatheemu – on Sunday. The meeting took place in R. Ungoofaaru.

Council officials previously travelled to Male’ if they wished to meet the president.

President Muizzu previously stated he does not believe this to be the best practice.

He said he plans on visiting all residential islands at least twice during his presidency.

Since February, President Muizzu has visited Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City, and islands in  Thaa, Gaaf Alif, Gaafu Dhaalu, Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani and Noonu atolls.

He is currently on a tour of islands in Raa and Baa atolls.

He is accompanied on the tour by a delegation of top government officials.
