19-year-old injured in road accident in Hulhumale’

A speeding motorcycle crashed into a parked vehicle in an accident in Hulhumale’ on early Monday, leaving one person seriously injured.

According to a police spokesperson, the motorcycle crashed into a van parked in front of the Immigration Detention Center, located in the Gul’alaama Hingun in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

The motorcycle was speeding, from west to east of the road, when it crashed, said the spokesperson.

The accident was witnessed by officers on patrol at around 02:32 am on Monday.

It resulted in injuries to the driver of the motorcycle, a 19-year-old Maldivian male, who was taken to the Tree Top Hospital.

He sustained serious injuries in the accident, and is being treated on a ventilator.

The police said the accident resulted in massive damages to both the motorcycle and the van – which belongs to Immigration.

Two more accidents took place in Hulhumale’ on Sunday, on the highway.

The first took place at around 07:40 am, and involved a pickup and two motorcycles. It resulted in injuries to a woman who was driving one of the motorcycles.

The second accident took place at around 08:10 am, and involved a car and a motorcycle. It resulted in injuries to the person driving the motorcycle.

Both were taken to the Hulhumale’ Hospital.

All three accidents are under investigation by the police.
