Almost all Male’ roads have been filled up with old furniture and appliances as households clean ahead of Ramadan.

Discarded old furniture and appliances occupy the pavements and corners of a number of roads. Pedestrians have shared concerns on social media over the difficulties they face as a result.

Waste ‘mountains’ are also occupying spaces on roads most frequented by pedestrians and motorists including Majeedhee Magu and Maaveryo Magu.

Many have expressed on social media that the waste should be discarded properly under the policy of social responsibility.

WAMCO, noting the issue has been brought to their attention, said they were undertaking efforts in collaboration with Male’ City Council to remove the waste. They also noted that they had, on their own accord, removed waste from areas with large numbers of discarded waste.

The corporation urged the public to discard waste in accordance with the stipulated regulations instead of discarding them on roads.
