Swells forecast for South and Central Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) on Wednesday, has forecast southern and central parts of Maldives will experience sea swells during high tide hours.

Besides sea swells, MET Office forecast heavy rainfall and thunder for several parts of the country as well.

MET reports tides will be highest in central parts of the country around 20:31hrs on Wednesday, with swells reaching up to 1.7 feet.

For southern parts, the tide will be highest around 22:49hrs on Wednesday evening with swells expected to reach 1.9 feet.

The weather forecast authority has also issued instructions to take precaution during sea swells, which include;

• Install sand-bag barrages in front of the entrances of buildings to block possible flooding due to swells
• Shift easily damageable portal goods and items to safer spots inside the house
• Shift non-portable, easily damageable items to spots that would not be exposed to flooding
• Avoiding vehicle parking near the harbor
• Mooring vessels berthed in harbors more securely
• Those traveling across Sinamale' Bridge to practice extreme caution when traveling during high tide hours
• Cleaning the waste and debris washed ashore during swells to avoid future epidemics

Maldives is experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied with occasional thunder and lighting, while the seas are comparatively rougher. MET Office also reports 79.0 milimeter of rain for Laamu atoll Kadhdhoo during the last 24 hours as well.
