AEH cautions over dengue case surge in Addu

Addu City.

Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has cautioned Addu City's public over the rise of dengue fever cases.

The hospital further advised public to take counter measures against mosquitoes, including elimination of breeding venues, and using precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

AEH urged public to remove stagnant waters, and drain the water out from cans and bottles left on roads or other places.

The hospital further cautioned to keep the doors and windows of houses closed during dawn and dusk, when mosquito activities peak. Additionally, the hospital has recommended to wear clothes that would reduce risk of skin exposure.

Symptoms of dengue fever become visible within four to 10 days from a mosquito bite. Symptoms include;

  • Fever
  • Joint or body pain
  • Headache
  • Eye ache
  • rashes on skin

AEH has also urged to seek immediate medical assistance or doctor's help if the symptoms prolong more than three days. Additionally, the hospital recommends taking proper rests and increase fluid intake.

Maldives is experiencing rainfall across various parts these days, which often increases chances of mosquito breeding.

While AEH has urged Addu public to take precautions against vector-borne diseases, chikungunya and dengue fever cases in Greater Male' Region have been rising in recent weeks.
