A woman has been injured in a fall from the second floor of a home in Male’ City’s Mahchangolhi district.

Maldives Police Service, via a message to the media on Sunday morning, said they received a report of a 42-year-old Maldivian woman falling from the second floor of a home in Male’ City’s Mahchangolhi district at approximately 4:00am.

According to the Police, the woman is currently being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Her ankles were dislocated in the fall, which resulted in an open fracture.

Police said the case is under further investigation.

This marks the second fall from a building in Male’ this year, with the first being the case of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, who was found unconscious on a rooftop after she fell from an adjacent building. The case triggered mass outrage with allegations of a police cover-up after it became known that the individuals involved have family links to influential government figures. However, investigations so far suggest that the incident was likely a result of those involved being intoxicated.
