Serial scammer Zaidhan arrested for defrauding goods worth MVR 73K using fake slips

Zaidhan Ahmed Hashim, a suspected serial scammer who stands accused of defrauding multiple people, has been arrested in connection with another case on Tuesday.

An additional suspect was arrested along Zaidhan in connection with the case: a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Afrin Akther.

Maldives Police Service states a shop in Hulhumale’ filed a case with the authority on April 16th, after goods were purchased from the shop throughout April on multiple occasions by sending fake payment slips.

Police noted that their investigation uncovered Zaidhan fraudulently purchased goods from two additional shops in Male’ by sending fake payment slips.

According to the Police, CCTV footage shows Zaidhan transporting goods that were fraudulently acquired using fake payment slips into two Hiyaa apartments he is renting. Moreover, items related to the case were found during searches of these apartments.

Zaidhan is suspected of fraudulently obtaining goods worth MVR 36,467 from a shop in Hulhumalé using fake payment slips, along with goods worth MVR 31,150 from one shop in Malé and MVR 5,817 from another.

Zaidhan has been remanded in custody for 15 days in connection with the case. Afrin was remanded in custody for five days.

Police said they are currently investigating 11 fraud and deceit cases involving Zaidhan, while the trials of two cases involving him are ongoing.

The 28-year-old with a criminal record for fraud and deceit was arrested on May 22 for scamming food delivery app, Foodies, using fake bank transfer slips. Representatives from Foodies said Zaidhan placed 30 food orders via their app using fake payment slips, collectively worth over MVR 9,000.

 

He had been arrested multiple times prior to that as well in connection with fraud and deceit cases.
