Maldives’ Club HDC suffered its second defeat in the CAVA Men’s Champions League on Friday as they lost against Nepalese volleyball champions Help Nepal (HNSC) – landing them in a precarious position.
The CAVA Men’s Champions League – the biggest men’s club volleyball competition in central Asia – is taking place at the Social Center Male’ from July 17-23.
On Friday night, HNSC won their match against HDC in 3-1 sets – marking their second win in the tournament. The club won the first set 25-19 and the second set 25-23. They lost the third set to HDC by 25-19, but recovered to win the fourth set 25-22.
HDC put on an unconvincing performance overall, with periodic flashes of brilliance.
The loss, which came at the heels of their defeat to Kyrgyzstan champions Bishkek the previous day, puts the club’s aspirations to advance up in rankings in jeopardy.
But things are looking good for HNSC, whose win against HDC came at the heels of its hard-fought win against Maldivian champions the Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) the previous night.
The tournament continues with three matches again on Thursday. HNSC will play against Bishkek at 01:00 pm, HDC will play against Kazakhstan’s Zhaiyk at 04:30 pm, and DSC will play against Sri Lanka Ports Authority at 08:45 pm.
