Velana International Airport (VIA) is gearing up for its biggest emergency preparedness exercise yet, set for September 8, 2025.

This Full-Scale Emergency Exercise (AFEX) will be the largest of its kind in the history of Maldives aviation, showcasing the airport’s commitment to safety and readiness.

The event, mandated by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), aims to test emergency response protocols and ensure the airport can handle any crisis effectively.

Building on the success of the 2022 exercise, which involved over 400 participants from 30 organizations, this year’s drill will bring together airport staff, medical teams, airlines, and emergency services to validate safety measures.

This major initiative highlights VIA’s dedication to maintaining world-class standards and keeping passengers safe, reinforcing its role as a key aviation hub in the region.
