President: Supreme Court bench beyond reproach

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has praised the Supreme Court judges of Maldives, commenting that they were beyond reproach.

President Yameen made the comments during the "Doing Business in Maldives 2016 - A Judicial Perspective" conference , held at Hotel Jen this Monday morning.

Yameen said the Supreme Court bench of Maldives was made up of a selection of the leading judges working in the justice system, and expressed concern over criticism from the international community.

“There decisions are not the least bit questionable. But the international community raising questions with their reports and saying Maldivian judges or the Maldivian justice system isn’t up to par with their standards,” said President.

He said that such parties were pressuring Maldives via various international organizations the country is a part of.

He said that the small stature of Maldives meant that the country was be-riddled with a number of challenges.
