Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has announced that fees will be imposed for the mechanical parking systems that will be installed in the streets of Male’ City to solve congestion during select hours.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has contracted State Trading Organization (STO) with the task of installing 10 mechanical car parking systems and 10 mechanical motorcycle parking systems – which will create 1,160 parking spots.
The first mechanical parking system is being installed near Velaanaa Building – a particularly congested area.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that special policies for use of the parking systems had been compiled; and that a fee will be imposed for use of the systems during select hours, but that it will be free of charge during the rest.
The ministry is yet to announced the fee rates, or the policy for usage of the mechanical parking systems.
Minister Muizzu said that two more of the systems had been brought to the country and were ready for installation.
He said the parking systems are expected to make a positive impact on the issue of congestion in the future.
The systems will be installed near hospitals and office buildings.
