MVR 98m project commenced for waste management in central Maldives

An MVR 98 million project has been commenced for effective waste management in the central region of Maldives which covers the atolls of K, A. A, A. Dh, and V. Atolls.

“The project named as “Greater Male’ Environmental Improvement and Waste Management Project” by the Environment Ministry is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Joint venture projects on creating awareness regarding waste will be commenced under this project. The awareness programs will be conducted with Live and Learn Environment Inc from Australia. The three-year-long program worth MVR 13 million.

Persistent smoke issues from the waste management area in Thilafushi will also be commenced under the project. 

Modernized waste transfer centers are planned to be established in Male’ City and Vilimale’ and systems to transfer waste from the atolls in the region to Thilafushi will also be commenced.
