Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has launched a campaign with Skyscanner – a global metasearch engine and travel agency – to promote Maldives as a tourist destination.

According to MMPRC, the three-month campaign targets Russia, Italy and the UK - three markets which continue to be top source markets for tourist arrivals to Maldives, both prior to and after the country reopened its borders.

The campaign will focus on driving the message to travellers looking for new travel destinations as well as those who wish to travel to Maldives that the island destination is the safest global tourist, said MMPRC.

The campaign will highlight the scattered geographical disposition of Maldives, making it a safer and more tranquil vacation choice.

MMPRC expects the campaign to reach an audience of 50 million people from Russia, Italy and the UK, and also expects a hike in tourist arrivals from the three markets in the coming days.

Maldives received the Safe Travels stamp granted by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) back in September, and was added recently to UK’s Global Safe Travel List and Qatar’s Green List.

MMPRC said that searches for flight information to Maldives through Skyscanner recorded a 282 percent increase since Maldives was added to UK’s Global Safe Travel List on October 25.

Under the new campaign, MMPRC will introduce a special page for Visit Maldives Destination on the Skyscanner platform, which will have information regarding the experiences available for travellers to Maldives and other relevant information regarding the destination available in languages spoken in the three markets.

In addition to a designated page, advertisements on Maldives will be displayed on the most frequently visited pages on Skyscanner, as well as the main search page for flight information, in English, Russian and Italian.

MMPRC has been promoting Maldives under the campaign “Rediscover Maldives, the Sunny Side of Life”, since the island nation reopened its borders after nearly four months of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic on July 15. Multiple campaigns are being run simultaneously in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Maldives is currently open to all tourists, provided they have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 96 hours before departure from their original destination.
