7 women receive Rehendhi Award 2020

Seven women have been selected for the Rehendhi Award 2020, in recognition of their outstanding services to national development and society.

The Rehendhi Award is an annual award bestowed by the Gender Ministry since 2014.

Of the seven recipients this year, two were awarded for outstanding services in social sector, while the remaining five were awarded for outstanding services in their respective fields.

RECIPIENTS OF REHENDHI AWARD 2020

• Fathimath Ibrahim, Kaanimaage, Lh. Hinnavaru (social services)
• Maryam Shunana, H. Velasfaruge, Male’ (social services)
• Aminath Ameena, Handhuvareege, L. Kunahandhoo (for outstanding services in respective field)
• Shifza Mustafa, Aasaanu, G. Fuvahmulah (for outstanding services in respective field)
• Aishath Hussain Manik, H. Reendhookokaage, Male’ (for outstanding services in respective field)
• Hawwa Latheef, Hulhumale’ flat 10-3-01 (for outstanding services in respective field)
• Minha Faiz Rashad, Hulhumale’ flat 99-1-02 (for outstanding services in respective field)

Of the recipients, Ameena is a veteran reporter who now serves in the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, while Shifza is also a reporter, and Minha is the chairperson of online news outlet One Online.

The Rehendhi Award is usually conferred on Women’s Day, but was postponed this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
