United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has donated equipment to refine the communication system of the Maldives Police Service.

The equipment was donated in a special ceremony held in Iskandhar Koshi today and was handed over by UNODC project support officer Joshua Gonzalez. Commissioner of Maldives Police Service Mohamed Hameed received the equipment.

The Commissioner said that despite the fact that the communication network of police being established in 2004, challenges have been posed to maintain the system and operate as per demand.

The Commissioner added that a lot of work had been undertaken with international agencies in recent years to increase the technical capabilities of the police force.

He added that the newly donated equipment would bring a number of advantages to the police work.
