Maldivian Red Crescent launches public appeal for donations to Palestine

The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has launched an emergency appeal for donations to support the response and relief efforts carried out by Palestine Red Crescent (PRCS), amid the rapidly escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The launch of the emergency appeal comes after the Palestine Red Crescent called upon the international community and movement partners for intervention to prevent the humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding in Gaza.

According to the Maldivian Red Crescent, the funds raised will be directed to the preliminary emergency appeal launched by the Palestine Red Crescent on Tuesday.

It will support the delivery of humanitarian assistance, such as provision of first aid and medical services, fuel and essential supplies, transfer of the sick and wounded, provision of clean water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter, basic relief items including food, clothing, and household essentials, and protection and community engagement to the most vulnerable.

Donations are open from October 14-28.

More than 1,900 people – about half of them children and women – have been killed in relentless Israeli bombardment on Gaza since Hamas attacked Israel October 7.

On Friday, the Israeli military ordered 1.2 million civilians in northern Gaza relocate to its south within 24 hours

It has invoked fears of a repeat of the most traumatic event in Palestine's tortured history, their mass exodus from what is now Israel during the 1948 war surrounding its creation.
