Three charged in gang rape of Vilingili woman

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has filed charges against three men for the gang rape of a young woman in a home in GA. Vilimale’.

The rape of the 22-year-old woman was reported to the police in July.

The PGO filed charges against the three suspects with the Criminal Court on Thursday.

They were identified as:

  • Ibrahim Riza, 30, Dhanburu’dhoshuge, Mathimaradhoo, L. Gan
  • Ahmed Shaal, 20, Keyovina, GA. Vilingili
  • Mohamed Maail Mihad, 23, Malas, GA. Vilingili

The PGO said that the evidence submitted against them include witness statements, psychologists’ reports, medicolegal reports, and DNA analysis reports.

The three men are charged with rape and unlawful restraint of a person to inflict a sexual injury. The first charge carries a sentence of 15-25 years in prison, and the latter carries a sentence of 7-10 years in prison.

Meanwhile, Riza was also pressed with an additional charge of cannabis abuse, after he tested positive for cannabis following his arrest. The sentence carries a sentence of three years in prison.
