Two arrested in drug operation remanded in custody, one released

The court has released one suspect out of three arrested in connection with counterdrug operations carried out by the police.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man from GDh. Thinadhoo on Wednesday during this operation carried out by Thinadhoo Police Station in collaboration with Police Intelligence based on a tip received to Police Intelligence that he was going to traffic drugs into the island.

A small plastic bag containing substances suspected to be drugs was discovered on the man when was searched following his arrest during the operation. Thinadhoo Magistrate Court however released the man when he was presented for a remand hearing.

A 41-year-old man traveling to Kooddoo from Male’ was arrested during an operation carried out based on a tip received to Police Intelligence that he was carrying drugs.

The man was arrested from Kooddoo on February 25th during this operation. A rubber packet containing substances suspected to be drugs was seized from him. Thinadhoo Magistrate Court remanded him in custody for 15 days.

On February 24th, officers from Dh. Hulhudheli Police Post stopped and searched a 38-year-old Maldivian man on suspicion of carrying drugs while patrolling the island. A rubber packet containing substances suspected to be drugs was seized during the search.

The court has remanded him in custody for five days.

All three cases are underway further investigation by the Police.
