Qasim defends seat, Nahula faces defeat

Jumhoory Party (JP) leader and famous entrepreneur Qasim Ibrahim has defended his seat for Maamigili constituency in Sunday's parliamentary election.

Preliminary results show Qasim has defended his seat, however, his wife, former Minister of Transport Aishath Nahula, who was contending for South-Hulhumale' seat faced defeat.

The initial results show Nahula has secured 208 votes, while Dr. Ahmed Shamheed from MDP secured 1,020 votes, putting him in the lead.

PNC's Shaneez Hashim had contended for South-Hulhumale' consituency as well, and is currently in second place with 721 votes.

Out of the candidates contending for the parliament through JP's ticket, Qasim is the only one to secure a seat in the 20th parliament assembly. 

Others from the party who contended in the election included its deputy leader Dr. Ameen Ibrahim along with Nahula.
