Two men have been arrested last Friday for attempting to smuggle drugs into Kulhudhuffushi City via air.
Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, identified the two men arrested on Friday as Abdulla Ibrahim, 53, M. Aroodhaage, Male’ and Mohamed Humaam Hassan Naeem, 29, Leed, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi. They were arrested during an operation conducted based on a tip received to Narcotic Intelligence, informing of an attempt to smuggle drugs into Kulhudhuffushi.
Police detailed that three rubber packets and a juice petty bag containing substances suspected to be drugs were discovered on the individuals when they were searched following their arrest. The preliminary weight items seized were placed at 52.2 grams.
Abdulla was remanded in custody of the police for 15 days while Humaam was remanded for 10 days.
The case is under further investigation by Kulhudhuffushi Police Station.
Notably, another double arrest was made in a counter-narcotics operation on Friday from Male’: Aishath Shiyaza, a police officer, and Saifulla Ahmed, a journalist-turned-pilot. Both had tested positive for cocaine.
Saifulla was remanded in custody of the police for 10 days, while Shiyaza was remanded for five days, after she asked for time to appoint a lawyer.
