Three Pakistanis arrested for smuggling heroin into Maldives

Three Pakistani nationals, including a teacher, have been arrested for smuggling drugs into Maldives. 

The suspects arrested in the case are: 

  • Busra Anees, 36 
  • Muneer Aziz, 41 
  • Mohamed Yaseen, 49 

They were presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Wednesday. 

Police identified the ringleader as Muneer Aziz, who works as a teacher. Police found 598 grams of heroin hidden inside his sandals.  

According to police, he also made two prior attempts to smuggle drugs into Maldives. 

Busra Anees was arrested with 852 grams of heroin hidden inside his slippers and underwear. He was also previously arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into Maldives. 

Meanwhile, Mohamed Yaseen was arrested with 738 grams of heroin hidden inside his slippers and 254 grams of heroin hidden inside his anal cavity. 

The heroin seized from all three suspects weighed 2,445 grams. 

All three suspects are cooperating with the police, and have asked to be repatriated in exchange for their cooperation. 

Police asked the court for all three suspects to be remanded in jail pending the outcome of their trial. 

However, the court ordered for them to be remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.
